‘Gravity sucks’, said Mr.Momentumum

Two famous experiments. Two super-famous scientists.

A did the experiment similar to shown in image A.

B described the experiment shown in image B.

Give me A,B, and the names of the respective experiments.

[ If you also give me the colloquial, raunchy name for experiment B, I’ll give you bonus imaginary points ]

Cracked in bits and pieces by Anirudh Patil, and Vivek Nigam.
Consolation points to Avishek Dey for getting 1/4th of the answer right.

Answer:

Galileo. Inclined Plane experiment
Time it takes for an object to fall from some height is independent of its mass. Also measured acceleration due to gravity to a decent degree.

Newton – Newton’s Cradle, Newton’s pendulum, executive ball clicker etc.Demonstrates conservation of momentum and energy.

In a colloqial usage, these are referred to as ‘ Newton’s Balls ‘.

  1. Anirudh Patil says:

i am pretty sure it is Galileo and Newton.. don’t know the name of the experiments thouhg..
The colloquial name for the second one is Newton’s Cradle (Thanks to an iPhone App by the same name)

  2. Vivek Nigam says:

A – Galileo’s Experiment – Time it takes for an object to fall from some height is independent of its mass.

B – Newton’s Pendulum – Conservation of momentum, conservation of energy and elastic collision
