Better get that checked out.

What can happen if the two lobes of your brain are separated?Since each eye is controlled by the opposite hemisphere, if you show one eye a card telling the person to do something, the person will do it with no memory of having read the card. If you ask why he did it (since the other lobe controls the mouth) he’ll invent more and more fabulous explanations for why he did so, even when he’s shown the card with both eyes.

Severing the part that joins the two, can also lead to something you might remember from Dr. Strangelove.

What am I talking about?

An Emu-tional Thank You

To the emu gang:

I remember noting a quarter century or so ago that an emu was a 6 foot Australian flightless bird. I thought that got most of it right.

It turned out to be one of the most widely photographed _______ in history. That was no doubt due to the fact that it was so photogenic. Equally responsible for its success was its characteristic of hiding from view its ugly occupant.

Its true beauty, however, was that it worked. It was tough, reliable and almost cuddly.

To all of you who made it all that it was, I send a quarter century’s worth of thanks and congratulations.

(Signed) X

A really famous thank-you note, sent in 1994 by whom? ūüôā¬†

Apples and Oranges

In The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, X is the goddess of Y.X’s¬†name is similar in sound to the word ‘Heiress’, as in a ‘spoiled¬†little rich girl’. She used to receive a large allowance from her Father (“Daddy“) every month until she was cut off for all the trouble that she was causing.¬†She is portrayed as a curvaceous and beautiful, but vindictive, blonde-haired woman with a gap in her teeth. She is the keeper of the Z, a¬†golden apple that can transform into any shape to assist her into wreaking havoc.

In one episode, she¬†gives the apple to the trio, Grim tries to seal it away, Mandy wants to become the new goddess of Y, and Billy is…well Billy.¬†The three eventually end up fighting over it until X returns, glad with the outcome of her plan, and leaves with Z.

Id X,Y and Z. What Incident in Greek mythology does the episode parody?

Gender Bender

In October 2012 X received the¬†Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award.¬†In her acceptance speech she revealed that she had considered committing suicide once in her youth. X’s acceptance speech was one of the longest public appearances that either of the notoriously reclusive siblings has ever given. She began by explaining that while she and her brother had not publicly commented on her transitioning during the past decade of rumors about it, this was not because she was ashamed of it, nor had she kept it a secret from her family and friends. Rather, X had not commented about her transitioning due to a general shyness about the news media that both she and her brother possess. Comparing it to losing one’s virginity as an event which only happens once and is irreversible, the Ys had tried to stay out of the public eye and avoided giving interviews due to fear of losing their personal privacy, fearing that they would never be able to go to a public restaurant again without being noticed and harassed as celebrities.

Name the really famous siblings, whose works are well-known in their industry.

Y Рfamily name of the siblings.

Workoutable from context if you’ve heard this HUGE bit of news somewhere in 2012.¬†

In 1986, ________’s longtime advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi formed a specialized unit, Team One, to handle marketing for the new premium brand. Image consulting firm Lippincott & Margulies was hired to develop a list of 219 prospective names; Vectre, Verone, Chaparel, Calibre and Alexis were chosen as top candidates. While Alexis quickly became the front runner, concerns were raised that the name applied to people more than cars (being associated with the Alexis Carrington character on the popular 1980s primetime drama Dynasty),and as a result the some changes were made to the name Рremoval of an alphabet, and replacement of some others.

The term “the X of…” has also entered the cultural lexicon as a description of a high-end product.

What famous brand name are we talking about? Workoutable.

Have you played “The Binding of Isaac” yet?Its pretty awesome if you’re into such a thing

The seven deadly sins appear as mini bosses in the game. All of them have unique sprites. Except for one. This one is just a color swap on a pre existing sprite for a different monster. After the expansion pack “Wrath of the Lamb” all the seven sins monsters were upgraded to “super” status, giving them newer, more disturbing sprites. But the one in question is just bigger with maybe its eyes open.

Which one is it? Very workoutable.

Good Luck _____.

Who speaking about what?

Back when I was writing and producing¬†__________, the only way to read my cards was to record each episode on a VCR and hit the “pause” button. This was not an easy task. The image wobbled like crazy making the tiny words of my weekly tomes very hard to see. Then it hit me. What about building a device that records video images digitally? Wouldn’t this allow for a much more precise “pause” function? I took my little notion to an impoverished computer whiz by the name of Schlomo Tivowitz. At the time of our meeting Schlomo was feverishly trying to invent an improved version of the¬†George Foreman Grill. Schlomo’s grill would contain a hard drive that remembered all the details of your last barbecue, as well as an address book. I didn’t really see the point of it, but, not being a tech guy, I held my tongue and presented him with my idea. I will never forget his reaction. With hamburger-flecked spittle flying from his blubbery lips, he laughed, called me some very unkind names and demanded that I leave his mother’s basement immediately. My hopes dashed, I went back to work on ________¬†and forgot about my silly idea. Well, I’m sure you can figure out what happened next. The fact that you’re reading this card right now should tell you. Thankfully, it’s not in my nature to be bitter. But there are times when I feel a little used — usually when I’ve forgotten how to effectively grill a fatty piece of chicken.

Note that the two blanks are identical. Blanks not required. ūüôā¬†
Try figuring this one out! You would have seen the thin being spoken about for sure! ūüôā

Badass, Over Here!

It took James Cameron 60 weeks to prepare Titanic for its re-release, but apart from remastering the original at 4k resolution and converting it to stereoscopic 3D, nothing about the movie has really changed.

Well, almost nothing.

According to Cameron: ¬†X sent me quite a snarky email saying that, at that time of year [April 15, at 4:20 am], in that position in the Atlantic in 1912, when Rose is lying on the piece of driftwood and staring up at the stars, that is not the star field she would have seen.‚ÄĚ

‚ÄúAnd with my reputation as a perfectionist, I should have known that and I should have put the right star field in. So I said ‚ÄėAll right, send me the right stars for that exact time and I‚Äôll put it in the movie.‚Äô‚ÄĚ

So X did just that, and Cameron re-shot the scene. It is the only major technical change in the film’s re-release.

Id X, who is also a famously a meme on the Internet – titular clue helps! ūüôā

This was back when Bell was “the” phone company for most of USA. The Strategic Air Command or SAC (the Air Force command tasked with managing the Air Force’s nuclear weapons) was based in Offutt Air Force Base in Omaha and needed¬†a lot of incoming phone lines¬†in the case of an attack. Obviously most of those lines went unused.
Mail-order companies saw potential in the infrastructure and petitioned North Western Bell and the government to allow its use. They agreed with the proviso that the businesses would be cut off in case of an attack. But at the time, using the same 800 number both for calls within a specific state and calls from one state to another was against telephone company rules. Sellers therefore had the choice of confusing their customers with two 800 numbers, one for callers within X and one for callers living in the rest of the country, or just having the one 800 number and simply using this iconic line.
Supply the iconic line…

And now for something completely different….

X¬†is a novel first published in 1851.¬†It is considered to be one of the great american novels¬†and a treasure of world¬†literature. The author employs stylized language,¬†symbolism, and the¬†metaphor¬†to explore numerous complex themes. It also¬†includes chapters devoted to explaining various aspects of ——- life, as well as a cetology lesson that¬†wouldn’t¬†be out of place in a biology textbook or encyclopedia.¬†There’s also a chapter about chowder. It’s often told that the reason why these sections exist is because the author was told the novel needed to be longer – and he couldn’t think of anything else to pad it out with.
