Yeh Melody Kaunsi Hain?

Outside, there were few lights on and the stars in the sky were visible and “just amazing”, according to the song’s co-producer, Ken Nelson.

While composing the song’s lyrics, _______ could not find the right words. He was thinking of a specific word, which he deemed a missing key word in the lyrics, to fit the song’s concept. He looked around the studio and found the telephone directory yellow pages, which happened to be situated nearest to him. ________ later titled the song X as a reference to the directory. He quipped, “In an alternate universe, this song could be called Playboy. The lyrics progressed from there with the band collaborating. Bassist ____ ________ came up with the opening line That night, having quickly composed the song, the band recorded it.

A much different origin of the song was told on The Howard Stern Show in November 2011. ______ explained to Stern that he was impersonating Neil Young while entertaining guests when he came across the first chord of the song, which stuck with him for a bit then in a Neil Young voice he sang the opening line . _______ went on to further explain that the word X has absolutely no meaning whatsoever and while writing the rest of the song he tried his best to change X to something else since every lyric before X made no sense but in the end the word X just sounded right. _______ also told Stern that through the years depending on the attitude and manner of whoever interviews him, he would make up some story about a song or album titles just to move on to the next question. _______ applauded Stern saying “I like you, Howard, so that’s the first time I’ve ever told anyone the truth behind X.”

X Hatke!

The founder of X, Amancio Ortega, opened the first X store in 1975 in a central street in downtown A Coruña, Galicia, Spain. Ortega named his store Y after watching the classic film Y the Greek, but apparently there was a bar that was called the same, two blocks away, and the owner of the bar came and said, “this is going to confuse things to have two Ys.” They had already made the molds for the letters in the sign, so they just rearranged them to see what they could find, and they found X! The first store featured low-priced lookalike products of popular, higher-end clothing fashions. The store proved to be a success, and Ortega began opening more X stores throughout Spain. During the 1980s, Ortega started changing the design, manufacturing, and distribution process to reduce lead times and react to new trends in a quicker way, in what he called “instant fashions”. The company based its improvements in the use of information technologies and using groups of designers instead of individuals

Different Strokes!

X is a 19th-century art movement that originated with a group of Paris-based artists. Their independent exhibitions brought them to prominence during the 1870s and 1880s, in spite of harsh opposition from the conventional art community in France. The name of the style derives from the title of a Claude Monet work, _______, soleil levant (________, Sunrise), which provoked the critic Louis Leroy to coin the term in a satirical review published in the Parisian newspaper Le Charivari.

X painting characteristics include relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, open composition, emphasis on accurate depiction of light in its changing qualities (often accentuating the effects of the passage of time), common, ordinary subject matter, inclusion of movement as a crucial element of human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles. The development of X in the visual arts was soon followed by analogous styles in other media that became known as X-ist music and X-ist literature.

Id the style X.  ______ and X are almost the same.

Cowabunga!

Found this poem randomly. A fairly workoutable question – Who wrote this poem, and what is it about? 🙂

Fake bonus points if you explain the title reference. 😛

I’ve grown a goitre by dwelling in this den–

As cats from stagnant streams in Lombardy,

Or in what other land they hap to be–

Which drives the belly close beneath the chin:

My beard turns up to heaven; my nape falls in,

Fixed on my spine: my breast-bone visibly

Grows like a harp: a rich embroidery

Bedews my face from brush-drops thick and thin.

My loins into my paunch like levers grind:

My buttock like a crupper bears my weight;

My feet unguided wander to and fro;

In front my skin grows loose and long; behind,

By bending it becomes more taut and strait;

Crosswise I strain me like a Syrian bow:

Whence false and quaint, I know,

Must be the fruit of squinting brain and eye;

For ill can aim the gun that bends awry.

Come then, Giovanni, try

To succour my dead pictures and my fame;

Since foul I fare and painting is my shame.

Sestercentennial Post.

Key words sufficient.

Also, 250th post yaay! 😀

This Isn’t the ____________ _______ You’re Looking For

By Paul Shawcross

The Administration shares your desire for job creation and a strong national defense, but a _________ ________ isn’t on the horizon. Here are a few reasons:

  • The construction …… has been estimated to cost more than $850,000,000,000,000,000. We’re working hard to reduce the deficit, not expand it.
  • Why would we spend countless taxpayer dollars on a ______ ________ with a fundamental flaw?

However, look carefully and you’ll notice something already floating in the sky — that’s no Moon, it’s a Space Station! Yes, we already have a giant, football field-sized International Space Station in orbit around the Earth that’s helping us learn how humans can live and thrive in space for a long duration  The Space Station has six astronauts — American, Russian, and Canadian — living in it right now, conducting research, learning how to live and work in space over long periods of time, routinely welcoming visiting spacecraft and repairing onboard garbage mashers, etc. We’ve also got two robot science labs — one wielding a laser — roving around Mars, looking at whether life ever existed on the Red Planet.

An Emu-tional Thank You

To the emu gang:

I remember noting a quarter century or so ago that an emu was a 6 foot Australian flightless bird. I thought that got most of it right.

It turned out to be one of the most widely photographed _______ in history. That was no doubt due to the fact that it was so photogenic. Equally responsible for its success was its characteristic of hiding from view its ugly occupant.

Its true beauty, however, was that it worked. It was tough, reliable and almost cuddly.

To all of you who made it all that it was, I send a quarter century’s worth of thanks and congratulations.

Sincerely,

(Signed) X

A really famous thank-you note, sent in 1994 by whom? 🙂

Gender Bender

In October 2012 X received the Human Rights Campaign’s Visibility Award. In her acceptance speech she revealed that she had considered committing suicide once in her youth. X’s acceptance speech was one of the longest public appearances that either of the notoriously reclusive siblings has ever given. She began by explaining that while she and her brother had not publicly commented on her transitioning during the past decade of rumors about it, this was not because she was ashamed of it, nor had she kept it a secret from her family and friends. Rather, X had not commented about her transitioning due to a general shyness about the news media that both she and her brother possess. Comparing it to losing one’s virginity as an event which only happens once and is irreversible, the Ys had tried to stay out of the public eye and avoided giving interviews due to fear of losing their personal privacy, fearing that they would never be able to go to a public restaurant again without being noticed and harassed as celebrities.

Name the really famous siblings, whose works are well-known in their industry.

Y – family name of the siblings.

Workoutable from context if you’ve heard this HUGE bit of news somewhere in 2012.

Aside

In 1986, ________’s longtime advertising agency Saatchi & Saatchi formed a specialized unit, Team One, to handle marketing for the new premium brand. Image consulting firm Lippincott & Margulies was hired to develop a list of 219 prospective names; Vectre, Verone, Chaparel, Calibre and Alexis were chosen as top candidates. While Alexis quickly became the front runner, concerns were raised that the name applied to people more than cars (being associated with the Alexis Carrington character on the popular 1980s primetime drama Dynasty),and as a result the some changes were made to the name – removal of an alphabet, and replacement of some others.

The term “the X of…” has also entered the cultural lexicon as a description of a high-end product.

What famous brand name are we talking about? Workoutable.

Good Luck _____.

Who speaking about what?

Back when I was writing and producing __________, the only way to read my cards was to record each episode on a VCR and hit the “pause” button. This was not an easy task. The image wobbled like crazy making the tiny words of my weekly tomes very hard to see. Then it hit me. What about building a device that records video images digitally? Wouldn’t this allow for a much more precise “pause” function? I took my little notion to an impoverished computer whiz by the name of Schlomo Tivowitz. At the time of our meeting Schlomo was feverishly trying to invent an improved version of the George Foreman Grill. Schlomo’s grill would contain a hard drive that remembered all the details of your last barbecue, as well as an address book. I didn’t really see the point of it, but, not being a tech guy, I held my tongue and presented him with my idea. I will never forget his reaction. With hamburger-flecked spittle flying from his blubbery lips, he laughed, called me some very unkind names and demanded that I leave his mother’s basement immediately. My hopes dashed, I went back to work on ________ and forgot about my silly idea. Well, I’m sure you can figure out what happened next. The fact that you’re reading this card right now should tell you. Thankfully, it’s not in my nature to be bitter. But there are times when I feel a little used — usually when I’ve forgotten how to effectively grill a fatty piece of chicken.

Note that the two blanks are identical. Blanks not required. 🙂
Try figuring this one out! You would have seen the thin being spoken about for sure! 🙂
